✦ Practical Travel Tips

☀️

Best time to visit: November to April (dry season). March is the driest month. The Panagat Festival in May is also a great reason to visit. Avoid habagat season (June–October) if planning beach and banca trips.

💰

Cash is essential: ATMs are very limited in Buruanga. Withdraw enough Philippine Peso in Caticlan or Kalibo before your journey. Most resorts, cottages, and local eateries do not accept cards or GCash.

📱

Download offline maps: Mobile signal can be weak or absent at Hinugtan and remote beaches. Download Google Maps or Maps.me offline for the Buruanga area before you leave cell coverage.

🏨

Book accommodations in advance: Many resorts only have Facebook pages and limited online presence. Contact them directly via Messenger early, especially for long weekends and peak season (December–March).

Banca safety: Only travel by banca in good weather. The Sulu Sea can be rough during habagat months. Always inform your accommodation of your banca itinerary. Tides affect departure times to Hinugtan.

🚢

If taking a RORO ferry: Book ferry tickets 1–2 weeks ahead during peak season. Arrive at the port at least 2–3 hours before departure. Bring light blankets, snacks, and entertainment for overnight crossings.

🗣️

Language: Buruanganon is the local dialect used in daily conversations while Filipino (Tagalog) is commonly used. A warm smile and "Kamusta?" goes very far. Buruanganons are known for their genuine hospitality.
